The Most Beautiful Places To Visit In Washington
The Evergreen State is an incredible place during the winter months. Even though most of the state stays green year-round, there are incredible snowy and green places to visit through the short days of the colder months.
Here are some of the most beautiful places we recommend to anyone trying to get to know what Washington offers.
1. San Juan Islands
There are hundreds of islands off of the west shore of Washington! Although only a few are inhabited with ferry access, you can explore any islands and appreciate the greys and blues of the winter Pacific Ocean.
2. Hoh Rain Forest
Explore the largest rainforest in the US during the off-season by visiting the Hoh Rain Forest. The Hoh Rain Forest is an incredible ecosystem. The Hall of Mosses provides a relatively short hike for all abilities to enjoy.
3. Wonders at Olympic National Park
Hit three enchanting experiences will visit Olympic National Park: Shi Shi Beach, the Ozette Triangle, and the Enchanted Valley. Shi Shi Beach provides a striking rocky shoreline: the famous Point of the Arches creates a stunning formation against the winter sky. The Ozette Triangle is a challenging (and perhaps slippery) hike through gorgeous landscapes. And the Enchanted Valley is also nicknamed the Valley of 10,000 Waterfalls– some of which freeze mid-cascade during winter months!
4. The Palouse
While the western portion of Washington stays much warmer, the eastern side gets colder with its own beautiful sights. The Palouse Landscape is one East Washington beauty that you have to see. With gorgeous rolling hills covered in snow and the Palouse Falls, you’ll have chilly natural beauty all around.
5. Lake Chelan
If you’re looking for a family-friendly place for skiing and snowboarding, you’ll have to visit the slops at Lake Chelan. With gorgeous snowy mountain views, you’ll enjoy cruising downhill all day long! And with the town of Chelan only a few miles away, it’s easy for families with younger children to take a break and meet up with older family members later.
6. Vancouver Ski Resorts
Since most of Washington truly remains “Evergreen,” northern ski resorts are packed during the weekend. But Vancouver is a great area to get time on the slopes– there are at least seven ski resorts close to the city! Plus, you’ll have plenty of other holiday markets and Christmas celebrations to visit while you’re there.
7. Rent a Snowy Vacation Home in Northern Washington
If you’re hoping to get a more private, cozy Washington winter, you can rent a home in northern Washington. This is a popular local tradition, helping families take advantage of classic snow activities without the crowds. From luxury Airbnb's to simple snow camping to quaint cabins, you’ll find plenty of attractive places at any price point!
